Airfield Assistant - RNAS Yeovilton

Boden Group provide general facilities maintenance and construction project work to the commercial sector as well as facilities maintenance services to the Ministry of Defence at multiple sites in the South West.

Due to an internal reorganisation, opportunities have arisen for two Airfield Assistants to join our Airfield Maintenance team. The successful candidates will also undertake maintenance tasks across the Yeovilton site as part of our Core Maintenance team.

The Airfield Assistant will work with a designated Airfield Technician covering a shift pattern of 7.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. on alternate weeks. There is also a requirement to be on call every other week and undertake any additional hours to fulfil the role.

Main Duties:

Airfield Duties

  • Assist Airfield Technician with PAPI maintenance
  • Operate radio supplied by air traffic control
  • Driving Technician’s van
  • Assist Airfield Technician with fault finding
  • Assist Airfield Technician with tasks that require two people, due to manual handling requirements
  • Repair of taxiway lamps and replacing bulbs
  • Act as the accompanying safety person for the Airfield Technician when carrying out airfield maintenance
  • Assist with carrying out inspections
  • Carry out emergency lighting tests
  • Carry out overtime as required and reasonably requested

Core Team Support

  • Assist where possible the electrical team with reactive maintenance
  • Carry out emergency lighting tests
  • Escorting duties of visitors and contractors to site - time permitting
  • Promote a pro-active safety culture and report DWB/Shout Outs
  • Carry out re-active jobs as directed by Electrical Supervisor
  • Adhere to company policies and processes and in support of ISO quality system accreditation

Knowledge & Key Skills:

  • Knowledge of PPM tasks
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Skills Profile:

  • Must be able to gain and retain MOD Security clearance
  • Must have a ‘can do’ attitude and contribute to the team effort
  • Flexible in approach to roles and responsibilities with a willingness to undertake tasks outside their own trade and if required, undertake qualifications outside their own trade
  • Must be flexible towards working at sites other than that at which they are based, particularly in support of immediate area or be willing to travel to attend training or meetings for example
  • Focused, motivated and enthusiastic
  • Capable of completing all own paperwork in a clear, accurate and concise manner
  • Good decision making and organisational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Will be required to achieve airfield driving permit
  • Will be required to undertake First Aid training if qualification not already held
  • Will be required to undertake MEWP training
