Boden Construction awarded new contract to refurbish GWR Penzance train crew room

A new refurbishment project for the train crew room at Great Western Railway (GWR) Penzance requires specialist skills due to its grade 2 listing and the need to work around existing stonework and features. It requires all works to be carried out to the GWR design guide specification and all works to meet Construction (Design & Management) (CDM) regulations.

Boden Group’s extensive range of in-house expertise was critical to winning the contract. The brief includes an asbestos R&D survey and associated actions, as well as a fire risk assessment with recommendations on the potential new layout and fire exits including changes to emergency lighting and fire alarm systems as required.

Other works included in the specification include a replacement kitchen, heating system install, new Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant male and female bathroom facilities and customer help desk, electrical testing and install of new ring mains and changes to existing layout of power and data supplies as well as new flooring throughout including safety flooring.
