National Careers Week 2021 - Ian Macbeth

It's National Careers Week 2021 where we will be talking to some of the Boden team about their careers. First up is Ian Macbeth, Fire & Security Supervisor.

Can you tell me about your role when you first joined Boden?
I first worked with Steve Boden in 2001 as an Electrical/Fire and Security Apprentice at Team Fire and Security. Then in 2009 when Boden Fire & Security first started up I joined as a Fire & Security Engineer which is almost 12 years ago now. As part of my role as Fire and Security Engineer I had the task of servicing, installing and commissioning fire alarms, electrical installations, intruder alarms and CCTV.

What training have you done at Boden?
I recently carried out further FIA Fire Alarm training to try and gain the Design Qualification for Fire Alarms

What is your favourite part of your job?
Delivering larger Fire Alarm installations that Boden have been awarded. I also enjoy getting called in to fix fault issues that other companies might not have been able to sort, being able to fix a fault is like a puzzle to me.

How has it been working during a pandemic and what are your goals for the next 5 years?
It has been a strange past year that’s for sure. As a whole its not been too bad though with the measures that have been put in place but with the reduced numbers of employees at time we’ve had to work really hard individually as well as a team to deliver works on time. I’m looking forward to when things return to more normal times hopefully. I am hoping to complete the FIA Design course later in 2021 and any other courses that could help me develop my career. Carry on developing and see what path that takes, possibly look to more design works and running of larger jobs and manage a team around me.
